I could but was it really necessary to upload JPEG version of the same image and why are they the parent?

I reversed the parenting of these post because at the time I felt the parent/child system was being used incorrectly. Right now I'm not even sure what's the correct uses for the parent/child systems since they're so many different cases for this. Would having some guild lines about it be of any help?
