According to the author twitter, there is a risk in self-cloning: the red box can only be opened from outside. If a clone suddenly decides that herself is the new Original, she isnt gotta open that red door and will leave you to suffocate in that box.
Looking back, could she use the blood of one of the others in the bags (if not more surviving pieces) to clone others?
I believe it was stated that even the smallest sample is suitable to create a perfect clone, which is the reason Anomalous Otter makes sure to completely destroy the body so that they can't "revive" the slain ally to maintain her memories and experience.
