Nine? Those are uncooked rice, I'm pretty sure it's enough to feed at least 100 people!
As Jarlath said, it's a koku. A year's worth of rice. Or, I suppose, enough to feed 1095 people in a single meal (presuming an even distribution of rice for three meals a day).
Incidentally, land was distributed to nobles based upon how much koku that land could produce. The presumption was that if someone had, for example, 10,000 koku of land, or enough farmland to feed 10,000 people, that was the rough limit of how many people could serve under that lord. (With only a small percentage of populations being directed to do anything but farm, and so, also limit the size of the army such a lord could raise.)
You seem to be troubled, no?You can leave the hot-pot preparation to us!I have the meat - and also the udon.I'm terribly sorry, but could I trouble you to cook up this rice?Perhaps it won't suffice...The Gathering of Carriers
