    Heh, that last note is the *normal* upper limit "as written" of the ordinary soprano recorder. Skilled players can reach several tones higher than that.

    And that's only "as written". The instrument actually sounds an octave higher than the standard written notation for it. The humble soprano recorder is surprisingly high-pitched, in piccolo territory. And there are even smaller recorders, the sopranino and the tiny garklein. The garklein is just nuts, ear-piercingly high.
