Isn't that kitsune soba?Well, that's direct!Oh...don't tell me...Tanuki soba has tenkasu, fried tempura batter bits, doesn't it!?The soba will go soggy.Can I eat that?It's fried tofu! Tenkasu is a whole other thing! In eastern Japan (e.g., Tokyo, Chiba), kitsune soba is soba with fried tofu, whilst tanuki soba has fried batter. This is reversed in Western Japan (e.g., Osaka, Kyouto).Tanuki soba.
