In the series Gundam 00, it is an inherent feature of the GN Drive (Tau) that temporarily increases their GN Particle output beyond normal parameters for greatly enhanced combat performance. This is a double-edged sword, because this ability only lasts for a limited time and severely lowers the Mobile Suit's performance afterward -- or worse, destroys the GN Drive Tau equipped on the MS.

It also gives the GN Drive-equipped unit a pink-reddish hue when used, a homage to the urban legend (even in-universe in the UC timeline) that any red mobile suit that Char Aznable pilots goes three times faster.
