Defensive smoke discharge canisters commonly found on military vehicles, such as tanks, armored personnel carriers, and self-propelled artillery. While its main use is to deploy a smoke screen to conceal the vehicle and any surrounding units, they can also be equipped with chaff, flares, or fragmentation grenades as radar, infrared, and infantry countermeasures, respectively.

Examples include the M250 Grenade Launcher found on the M1 Abrams or Wegmann 76 mm smoke mortars found on the Leopard 2.
