poppy (flower)
A normally red flower often considered a weed. The flower has overlapping petals in a circle, surrounding a black core. In the former British empire it is commonly associated with remembrance of the first World War, due to the poppies that grew in the no man's land. Its seeds are edible, but the green seedpods can be refined into opium.
