The chief surgeon of the USS Enterprise, known for his quick temper (Especially when he is dealing with Spock) and no-nonsense demeanor. His signature phrase, "I'm a doctor, not a X!", has attained longtime memetic status in the Western science fiction fandom.

A decade after Kelley's death, Karl Urban assumed the role of McCoy in the Star Trek reboot film in 2009.
