koopalings
A group of recurring, high-ranking koopa characters from the Mario series that first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3. They generally appear as world bosses in each of the first seven worlds, where they are confronted in towers or airships.
The Koopalings appear in many SNES-era games, before going on a long hiatus and eventually being redesigned for New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Since then, they have reappeared in numerous platformers and even as playable characters in spin-offs, including Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart Tour.
The Koopalings are portrayed as siblings, led by Ludwig von Koopa, that serve under Bowser and were also originally depicted as his children. However, this was changed in New Super Mario Bros. Wii where they are now his minions, which was later confirmed by Miyamoto Shigeru in 2012. The Koopalings have varying abilities, but in general, they all use their shells for offense and defense and are also skilled in magic.
All of the Koopalings are named after famous musicians.
