judo hold

寝技 抑え込み hold_down 抑え込み技

A judo hold, also known as a hold down and in Japanese as osaekomi-waza (抑え込み技, "pinning technique"), is a specific type of pinning hold technique found in judo. The original list of judo holding techniques was codified by Kano Jigoro and the Kodokan judo school.

The purpose of a hold in judo is to control and immobilize the opponent on their back for a specified period of time to achieve a score. This is contrasted with a submission hold or a joint lock where the goal is to force the opponent to submit or surrender. Judo holds may also be used in self-defense situations outside of judo practice or competition.

Judo holds have been incorporated into several different martial arts such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu, sambo and mixed martial arts, and may still be tagged judo hold.
