forrestal-class aircraft carrier

First post WWII US carrier and the first of what is now considered to be "super carrier", and one of the first to be designed with an angled flight deck (previous ones were conversions from straight deck carriers). Conventionally powered.
Ships in the class were:

  • USS Forrestal (CV-59)
  • USS Saratoga (CV-60)
  • USS Ranger (CV-61)
  • USS Independence (CV-62)
