dive bomber

A type of bomber designed for precision attacks. The "dive" in the name comes from the fact that most of these bombers are designed to enter a steep, near vertical dive when attacking their target to guarantee accuracy.

This type of aircraft was only used during World War II, as even during the conflict the dive bomber was already being replaced by multi-role aircraft.
