Big Chungus refers to an image of the obese Bugs Bunny, usually captioned with the phrase "Big Chungus" and presented as a game for PlayStation 4 console. The image originated from the 1941 Looney Tunes short "Wabbit Twouble", showing Bugs mocking Elmer Fudd (who at the time was depicted as obese) by briefly imitating his appearance.
The word "chungus" was coined by video game journalist Jim Sterling several years before the meme became popular. Starting in July 2019, the meme regained ironic popularity on iFunny and certain parts of Reddit, particularly as a part of Reddit Moment memes. The meme's popularity has reached the point that Warner Bros. has inserted some references to Big Chungus into several media, such as in the mobile game Looney Tunes World of Mayhem and the 2021 film Space Jam: A New Legacy.
