aircraft carrier

A type of warship with a flat flight deck that airplanes can use as a runway. Essentially serves as a floating, mobile airbase. They superseded battleship as the main type of capital ship during the end of World War II.

This tag also includes smaller helicopter carriers that carry helicopters instead of fixed-wing aircraft.
