Armor made of many small, overlapping plates sewn onto a cloth or leather backing, usually in a diamond pattern and/or resembling the scales of a fish or lizard.

Sometimes inaccurately referred to as scale mail.

Do not use this tag for lamellar armor, such as most Japanese armors, where the plates are perforated and stitched together in straight, ridged rows.
