A two-wheeled cart pulled by a person to carry passengers. The English word is a borrowing from the Japanese jinrikisha, literally "human-powered cart".
Formerly ubiquitous in many Asian cities, the introduction of automobiles and trains caused their gradual disappearance over the course of the 20th century. They retain vintage appeal for many however, and can still be found in some areas of Kyoto and Tokyo.
