Rathian is large, green, fire-breathing dragons known as the Queen of the Wyverns. Every Rathian is female, as the males are called Rathalos. In contrast to Rathalos, Rathian fight primarily on the land, using fireballs and venomous spines that cover their backs and the end of their tails. They're often inhabit forests, swamps, and deserts environments.
There are two subspecies; the Pink Rathian, a pink variant, and the Gold Rathian, a rare variant with a golden sheen. Originally appearing in Monster Hunter G, they reappear less often. The first "Unknown" monster introduced in Forward 1 update of Monster Hunter Frontier looks like a black variation of Rathian as well, but the connection was never made clear.
