A miniature sculpture, originating in 17th century Japan.

Historically they were often used as latches or fasteners to secure a pouch to the obijime rope worn around the obi on a kimono or yukata. They are also often worn to serve a completely decorative purpose. In modern times, they are sometimes used as cellphone charms or straps.
