A monstrance or an ostensory (Latin: ostensorium) is an vessel used in Catholic, Lutheran and Anglican churches for the display of some object of piety on the altar (such as a communion wafer during the Eucharist). It is gold in color, with a sun-like shape with a hollowed center and often adorned with a cross.
