A Japanese multimedia franchise by Bushiroad in collaboration with Sunrise, revolving around groups of fictional high school girls who become idols to compete in the titular national school idol tournament.
It is notable for being one of the first to link the fictional idol character with the real life semi-idol group consisting of a newly recruited voice actress specifically for the character (with the exception of some members of the first installment who already had an existing voice acting and music career). This format would later be replicated by its sister franchise BanG Dream!, which is fully managed by Bushiroad themselves.
