Izumo (DDH-183) is the lead ship of the Izumo-class aircraft carriers (officially classed as helicopter destroyers) of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The Izumo-class are currently the largest warships of the JMSDF.
The class' official classification as a "destroyer" served as a loophole around the post-World War II Japanese constitution that prohibits the construction of "offensive weapons".
