Jakku is an arid planet located in a remote sector of the galaxy that has many spacecraft wrecks on its surface -like star destroyer ruins and other craft- so many consider this planet a massive junkyard. This is because during the last great spacebattle of the old Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire, several capital ships in orbit crashed on it.
