An epic American space opera franchise created by filmmaker George Lucas, originally produced by Lucasfilms before Disney later acquired the rights in 2012. It is a science fiction and fantasy story set in a faraway galaxy, chronicling the galactic-scale conflict between the benevolent Jedi and the evil Sith faction.

The Star Wars saga has had a significant impact on popular culture; is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. Because of its success across the world during the late 1970s, several Japanese anime and manga from that era were heavily inspired by it.
