Known as "the Black Swordsman", he is a former mercenary who was branded for sacrifice by the God Hand, and now seeks revenge against Griffith, who betrayed him and cost him almost everything that he held dear. Only his love for Casca keeps him from going completely insane and becoming a creature of rage and hatred.
Guts's primary weapon in his one-man war against the God Hand is a massive sword known as the Dragonslayer, though he's also been known to employ a repeating crossbow, a set of throwing knives, a set of bombs, and a powerful gunpowder cannon built into the prosthesis that replaces the left hand that he lost during the Eclipse. For protection, he wears a pitch black set of armor named the Berserker Armor, which feeds upon the user's negative emotions to fuel their strength.
