In Berserk, Farnese de Vandimion is a noblewoman and commander of the Holy Iron Chain Knights, the ceremonial guard of the Holy See. She and Guts cross paths when her unit is sent to capture the Black Swordsman, who they believe is the "Hawk of Darkness" spoken of in a prophecy of doom. After an ordeal in which she is made to question every one of her beliefs and to witness just how corrupt her church can be, she joins Guts's new party.
