I'm kinda hoping for a FeMC this time around as well, but I think I'm getting my hopes up too much.
The screenshots of Mary show her hanging out with the rest of the cast as well as being in school and at the " secret meeting spot". So being a party member is highly likely.
Its already said there won't be FeMC. The game has alot of new content though. 50% more voice acting, a new area in town, more animated cutscenes to name a few.
You know, in terms of romanising this name, it's "Marii", not "Mari". The name Mary is written like "Meari" or "Mearii". It's most likely to be "Marie", the French form of Mary, as seen in Marie Antoinette. It would actually make sense how it's been written in katakana then.
Yeah, it's fine. On a different note, I get the feeling she's going to be a reporter, like a young wannabe reporter, or newbie reporter if she's above school age. It's a relatively common trope in anime. Kinda like Ema Skye from Ace Attorney but only a reporter rather than a forensic scientist - the same idea though, trying to find the truth about what's going on in a quirky and headstrong way. Party just her appearance, partly the target on her bag (targeting the truth?) and also that it would fit the theme of the game.
On the other hand, talking about the target, I can't help but notice a similarity in both shape and colour of the target that people land on when they fall into the TV.
That seems plausible. Looking at her overall design though, she doesn't seem like she's from Yasoinaba. She has that whole hipster thing going for her. I'm also reminded of the Prinny hat, especially with that pin button there.
The fact only her first name appears in dialogue boxes, whereas the other characters get their full name, and the fact it's a western name, have a Velvet Room feel to it. Some people think the "V" on her hat stands for "Velvet", some people think it's a reference to her being a Vita-exclusive character, others think it's the Roman numeral for 5 and that she's going to be in Persona 5. I'm not sure about the Velvet Room thing. Her clothes and general appearance seem far too down to earth and casual.
As for not being from Yasoinaba, I agree - and her foreign name implies it even more. Maybe she's that good old trope of the mysterious transfer student.
I don't think so, personally. It's common for similar colours to be moved between by different artists, such as Naoto Shirogane frequently having either blue or black hair, and Makoto Kikuchi having either dark brown or black. Eye colours even commonly vary in this way.
If she had pink, orange or blonde hair - basically something that couldn't just be due to different light levels - then I'd say it's more an alternate hair colour.
