    You know, this might be an interesting study on context, perspective and fandoms- to someone unfamiliar with 40K, yes, this kind of battlefield justice combined with the seeming nonchalance of the Kriegers is depressing. Meanwhile, the 40kids like me are probably nodding along and going "yep, looks like the Imperium on a day ending with 'y'."

    I mean, hell, if this was 40Kbooru we'd probably be putting this in the Slice of Life pool or something.

    Not part of the core fandom, but from what I understand of 40K, the lore goes to great lengths to explain why the Imperium's draconian and expeditive measures are actually necessary for the continued survival of mankind. The Imperium has many mortal enemies who don't play around and will use any opportunity, any weakness in its defenses, to annihilate it. Humanity's persistence is quite admirable given the circumstances.
