She's a white wolf tengu (not just a plain wolf youkai), so the point remains. Aya is a crow/raven tengu (karasu can mean either) and presumably the Great Tengu mentioned in passing a few times are the long-nosed-goblin variety (we've never actually seen one), but they're all still tengu.
I like the fannon countless times more than the official story.
Who cares about the official cannon anyway? All it really says about Gensokyo is that full of jerks who sometimes fight in fiery climactic showdowns to see who can be the biggest jerk. And, according to the cannon, if you're not just a jerk, you're also a jerk who eats people!
