Umm... that's kind of missing the joke... Yukari isn't being immaterialistic (she's only working to be able to eat, and kept trying to demand pinapple steak for it, she's working solely for material gain).
The joke is that this anteater-tiger-thing is hitting on her, bragging about being rich (so why are you in a zoo?) to her, and Yukari's just so weirded out by a talking animal she had been shovelling the stall clean for just a while ago starting up a conversation with her out of the blue that she just can't respond (and doesn't realize he's trying to get into her pants), which the anteater-tiger-thing takes to mean that she isn't swayed by money.
I wonder if the tapir's oil field is in Azerbaijan.
