Took fucking ages to refind this pic. I stumbled upon it a couple years ago and went, "What a neat pic that shows how various Akagi designs have been iterating on same tropes. I should upload it some day" and then forgot about it for a couple months. After that, every couple months I've been thinking about that Akagi evolution pic and how I should one day look it up again.

To think the shipgirl concept date way back to 2007, while Acea wasnt the first one as some thought she along with zeco were like precursors of the "modern shipgirls"(Shibafu: Smokestack backpack, radar headgear, rudder footwear , leg-mounted torpedoes) i think is safe to assume she inspired what would be the most iconic and memorable incarnation of Akagi and offcourse Shibafu set the standards of what future shipgirls would look like along with Yoshinori in the BB department(Nagato-class rigging forwards), is astonishing how after 9 years people still even unaware follow their guidelines of how to make shipgirls. Tho AL is becoming more and more detached of the shibafu and yoshinori's shipgirl concept these days.

Im looking towards Victory Belles, seems promising.

I always thought acea4 was the very first artist to make a concept of "girls got weaponized" to be specific for a warship, we want to go deeper looks like Gundam played very big influenced to all.
