I was personally hoping for Kaiju Kyouko, but I'm more than happy with this result.

Magic circles must be super dangerous if anyone can activate them so easily (for what looks like an unpredictable effect).

I think I figured out what happened: The magic circle *stores* your smolness for later. I bet it's single-use, too, so they have to draw another one to get everyone back to normal.

I don't know if I'd go that far, mainly because I am almost certain they're going to leave this behind and more shenanigans will ensue.

It could just be designed to have normal sized people shrink when stepping on it. Either to allow koa to quickly fix herself up or to allow her to capture Marisa by tossing her on it.
