I'm in love, the only ship i really hype so far!! So beautiful, and she got heterochromia eyes!
Oh wow... I thought that was a re-release of Avrora or something like that. But now that I actually look, totally different. Thanks for helping me get caught up.
And I don't know if your into this sort of thing but check out who her sisters are. Might not be who you would guess.
Ah, the ex-Milwaukee. She did not have a good time while serving with the Red Navy at all. The Russians supposedly took such awful care of her that when she arrived back in the US, it was decided to scrap her on the spot. Granted, she was also thoroughly obsolete by that point, but I heard her condition was beyond abysmal.

I had two thoughts back to back. One pretty reasonable and the other, while true definitely gets into the realm of Dark Humor.
Thought A: The Reds are not going to give useable military tech to anybody, ever.
Thought B: Do you think German woman and children were the only things The Reds raped?

To be fair, she was the first of the many US-made defense articles the Soviets returned to the US. Murmansk's material condition was the least of their worries since political stuff were delaying the return of the frigates and landing craft the Soviets used in the Kuriles campaign.

There's also HMS Royal Sovereign, aka Arkhangelsk. She was returned to Britain with the main gun turrets rusted into place because the Red Navy had apparently never rotated them at all.

Kinda sad we didn't go to war with Soviets after dealing with Germany and Japan. We could have steamrolled them and have convicted them in war tribunal for the rapes and all the other war crimes committed on Finland and Eastern Europe.

That maybe be true, but the American public was tired of war after just 4 years, guess the fire died out.

The Soviet Union was in a pretty favourable condition in 1945 and I think it's clear the US was not going to get involved for Eastern Europe when they made the decision to stop the push to Berlin to allow the Soviets to take it.

My take on it is when we allied with the Russians there was a lot going on. And while I'm sure collectively the United States had a pretty good idea we were going to win the war they wanted it done and over, soon is better. And some countries just got off easier for their war crimes than others. Sad truth of the matter. I think anybody would agree that we're all fans of Japanese culture here but anybody would have to admit Japan got a pretty hard pass for their war crimes. Both because of the guilt of the bombs (and the fires) and because we needed an ally in the region bad and that's just the way the world works.

Indeed. Japan was beaten, we could have simply blockaded the islands and starved them into submission, saving the nukes for the soviets. If their army was at all in any kind of position to repel an allied advance, those bombs would have broken it. We definitely should have gone with Patton and Churchill on this one and moved aggressively to cut off the path west open to the soviets. Imagine...46 years of misery, avoided.
