Yakuza Mama and Gangster Mama have some girls to explain things to using short words and even shorter gun barrels?
An M1903 Springfield has many features, but a short barrel is not one of them (except relative to the long infantry rifles of the 19th century, I suppose). :)

Well, there is the Mosin Nagant Obrez. So if the Mosin Nagants were field modified to be a sawn off pistol/rifle abomination, then I imagine some people may have done the same to their M1903.

Well... To be precise, the Obrez ( sawn-off ) was an answer to the lack of pistols and, generally, the overall lack of concealable weapons in the Late 19th- Early 20th century Russia and S.U. It wasn't a Field Mod, it was a weapon for revolutionaries ( and counter-revolutionaries ) who had something useful, but couldn't carry it openly in the middle of the city or even use comfortably in confined spaces.
But, yes, technically, you could um... "shorten" an M1903... As long as the reciever is in good shape and there is enough barrel to guide the sizable .30-06 bullet.
