Site uses her Japanese name (Mariabel).

I've been trying to change that, since Mariabel looks like a poor romanization but looks like we're stuck with that.

We always use the japanese name almost 99% of the time. The only exception i can think of right now is for pokemon where we use western names for.

Yes, what i meant was that it looked like they wanted the name to be Maribelle but, マリアベル (Mariabel) was the closest they came up with, and we just translated it letter by letter instead of adapting for the implied western lettering.

I mean, we don't call Darkness - Dakunesu, or Charlotte - Sharotto. We adapt it when appropriate.

Except that "Dakunesu" is meant to be Darkness, and is as close to being "Darkness" as is phonetically possible in Japanese.

"Mariaberu" could have been "Mariberu", but they chose to stick the "a" in there for whatever reason. The "ru" still becomes the "l" it was intended to be, however.

A lot of the FE character's names are clearly, obviously different in translation (probably because the Japanese didn't do enough research on what Western-sounding names are like before throwing whatever in, then having to change them to not sound really stupid in the culture they were supposedly taken from), like "Effi" turning into "Faye" because "Elfi" was already turned into "Effie".

Honestly, if you want to start a forum thread to get ALL the FE character names changed over the way that ALL the Pokemon names are just in their English translations, that would be fine, but you can't just do it half-assed for just one or two characters, or it just causes even MORE confusion than having people confuse Elfi and Effie or Leo (Leon in English) or Leon (Leo in English) already does.

Didn't know that the problem was so deep rooted in the Fire Emblem universe. I don't even play this game.
All i did was find a name that looked to be a mistranslation and tried to replace it with what i found to be the official name.
Didn't know this was such a touchy subject.
