Tashkent's max speed was defined as 39 knots, same as Shimakaze. And she was quite capable of sustaining that kind of speed. Both ships had the same displacement (3200t full load) and Tashkent had 40% more powerful engines (75k HP Shimakaze, 110k HP Tashkent). So Tashkent being faster than Shimakaze should be a matter of course, but the Shimakaze was well built.

On trials, Shimakaze went at 40.9 knots while Tashkent went at 42.5 knots, not much faster.

I still find it amusing Tashkent is still bigger than a typical destroyer and ido's subtly referencing that.

Though weren't some German destroyers like the Narvik Z23 big? Gearing and Allen M Sumner would likely be cheating at this point

Because Tashkent is cruiser class in her chest. That's no destroyer figure.

Also, I see Verniy finally got her share.

It must be noted horsepower at these speeds can and often does become almost irrelevant. Moar power isn't the limiting factor in the high 30 low 40 knot range where conventional hulls really can't get faster (well can't get faster while retaining enough volume to useful warships). In any cases this all completely breaks down on any sort of sea that isn't basically glass. If you put the ships side by side in even moderate swell basically any speed difference would probably vanish, this can be seen easily in the French vessels (The only "super fast" DD built in series), despite being identical designs they had a spread of over 2 knots in trial speeds with some of the ships whose engineering plants were registering the highest power output actually producing the lowest speeds.

Naganami-sama reminds you of Yuugumo-nee's seductiveness!

Also, let Murasame show you her fine points.

J-just leave Yamakaze and Umikaze alone.

    Urakaze as well -noja!

Hagikaze will remind you as soon as it's morning.

    Teruzuki is hungry...

Hatakaze would like to accompany you as well.

Actually, there have been a lot of oppai loli well-endowed destroyers in the past few years, but people don't remember the destroyers. (Meanwhile, making even MORE underaged coastal defense ships seems to have gotten the lolicons even more excited...)

Well, Tashkent's dimensions are around the same size as the Akizuki class, which in turn had dimensions similar to Yuubari (I heard that the Akizuki's were initially thought to be mass-produced Yuubaris by the USN). They're pretty much light cruiser sized.

There may be another reason for Tashkent to look like she does.

Her combat record is unimpressive - six shore battaries and one airfield, plus 13 planes, and one torpedo boat. She also safely escorted 17 transport (which doesn't tell us much sinse they could be 300t tugboats).

Most of her service time, Tashkent ferried reinforcments and cargo into besieged Sevastopol, and evaquated the wounded back into Novorossiysk. Some two hundred miles across the Black Sea. A trip, according to wiki, took about nine hours so Tashkent didn't break any speed records. But that is where things get interesting.

According to her captain she sailed 27000 miles during her service (a bit over a year). Just how many trips did she make?! Apparantly, enough to move her weight in cargo, and move across 19300 men.

So my opinion is this - Tashkent may started out as Shimakaze, (prototype destroyer) but during the war she distinguished herself in the same role as Hamakaze did (referenced here ).

I'd like her to see that as her mettle.

    Yes, that's about right.

There is also funny fact that it took more planes to sink Tashkent then Musashi needed. And Tashkent still managed to hold herself together long enough to limp back to base...

It takes a special kind of ship to do that. Very special.
