The Vapours is an old term for feeling faint/lightheaded/about to swoon that is distinctly associated with (American) Proper Southern Ladies from about a century ago. It's usually combined with fanning yourself to help keep oxygen in your lungs in spite of your ludicrously tight (and monstrously expensive) whalebone corset, and the gentlemen nearby possibly losing a monocle.
I thought it was fairly common parlance in mocking the rich and old-fashioned, but I guess not?

I'm aware of the same antebellum Southern belle associations, fanning and all; I just somehow picked up a tidbit (apparently not true) that the term was a euphemism for flatulence and its associated discomfort, which excessively tight corsets would also not have helped.
