    Hang in There, Kogasa-san 2605

I think I've gotten to where I'm still good to go after about a cup of beer, though. Despite my watering it down, the whisky had its effect.

And so, since the trip back was nothing but gags about a tour of repeatedly stopping by Service Areas and eating, Part 2 ends here!

    Such a cheap drunk, Kogasa-san.

Took a while to track down readable versions of the semi-readable text in panel 2, extrapolated from what little I could definitely discern.

Reader-added tags include "Alcohol tolerance: destitute", "But I'll be right on time for the Service Area eating tour", and "King Crimson" (the Stand that can erase time).

Haven't tried those flavours yet of Nikka. Though I would recommend 'Nikka - From the Barrel' for our Danboorian Whisk(e)y drinkers.

Yow, that's some really low alcohol tolerance for Kogasa. Like, I'd say that my body has a relatively low tolerance - like three beers and I'm all red in the face... but it'll take around a bottle and a half of hard liquor to knock me out cold for an hour.

I'm fond of Nikka Black myself - not bad, and relatively smooth for the price.

But the drive from the distillery to Tokyo is 5 hours...

I can't stand whiskey. Tastes like fermented cold medicine.

I can drink rum and vodka no problem, but not even a sip of whiskey.

You've been drinking some awful cheap whiskeys, then. Or Jack Daniel's, which is the same thing but marked up.. ;)

What nice whiskeys would you recommend, good sir?

Depends on your tastes, the type of whiskey you prefer (Irish, bourbon, Scotch single or mixed malts, rye, shouchu which I'd argue is effectively a whiskey), price point, etc.

Trivia: Nikka was originally called Japanese Fruit Juice Corporation, and its earliest product is apple juice. Thus the inclusion of apple wine here.

Oh if only. I really can't afford the cheap stuff now, but would definitely love to try them one day. Then again I'm used to cheap bourbons like Evan Williams so I'm sure anything would be good. XD

Also wow he was bowled over quick, wonder how it actually went in real life. With food, I can sometimes sip on a highball of bourbon whiskey throughout the night, but admittedly forgot the food part once and regretted that. I remembered every bit of it though, bleh.

Do you drink your rum/vodka straight or mixed?

So they went from juice to The Juice.

Japanese whiskey is pretty expensive in NL. They don't sell samples for the bottles much because they don't wish to "waste" bottles. Perhaps I should sign up for a whiskey tasting session and hope they have Nikka over there.

Adding to Jarlath's: If you're beyond the point where you would only taste alcohol, then I would suggest the following interesting ones:
    - Bunnahabhain 12 XII (46,3%) (affordable)
    - Auchentoshan springwood (40%) (affordable)
    - Ardbeg 10 (affordable, but very smokey!)
    - Lagavullin 16 (43%) (more expensive below here)
    - Laphroigh Quartre Cask
    - Kilchoman Sanaig 46%
    - The Ardmore Tradition (46%)
    - Tullibardine 500 sherry finish
    - Nikka From the Barrel (51,4%)
    - The Yamazaki 12

Buy sample bottles. Not the full bottle. (If you don't enjoy it, waste of money). I would stay away from Ardbeg 10 if you're starting out with whiskey. That one packs quite the punch and is very smoky. But interesting to try once you're used to it.

Further you can read around on Reddit and such for some basic advise (like why yes/no ice/water. Drink whiskey with or without whiskey rocks etc.
    - Few drops of water dilates whiskey slightly. It is good for starters because the alcohol % drops, so you enjoy it probably more and can get used to the alcohol. Downside: the taste becomes more bland.
    - Whiskey rocks prevent dilating the whiskey like ice, but chilled whiskey becomes also more bland.
    - Ice is usually no go. Not because of the elitism attitude people put up, but because it dilates + chills.

I usually drink my whiskey from Glencairn glasses. Here on a tweet (https://twitter.com/HelepolisH/status/954832587083612161) of mine I have these sample bottles + little whiskey glasses for tasting.

Apologies for the very late reply here and many thanks for the great info!
Those sample bottles really do look like medicine bottles though XD

I've always wanted to try this stuff once.
    Touring the Nikka Whisky distillery...
    Farewell, Sendai
    Yaaay!♡
    Guuullllp
I'll be driving today, Kogasa, so you can taste-test too.
    We're almost in Tokyo!
    Huh!?
"Super Nikka" High points are its smoothness, good balance and mellow flavor. (Blended Whisky)
"Taketsuru" High points are subdued ease of drinking, and profound body and rich flavor of malt. (Malt Whisky)
"Apple Wine" Combining apple wine and brandy, high points are a mellow flavor with deep, trailing notes. We recommend adding 1-2 ice cubes.
