I don't quiet get the joke, it feels like it's missing a setup scene. Or maybe this is suppose to be when they were falling before the fusion and how it should have ended with them fused but out of tournament. lol

I think the joke is that fusion was prohibited for the competition, so they should have been auto disqualified.

Actually, the title commentary says "Kefla didn't make it in time".
So I think Kale and Caulifla didn't fuse fast enough and got knocked out.
