I am sorry to ruin it for you (if i even do that is) but before these Q-Tips (Plastic Sticks with Artificial Wool on each end) were used for earcleaning a random "Small" pointy stick was used ... with either wool or old cloth on its tip. If those were avaliable ofcause. (I wrote all of this from memory so i cannot gurrantee historical accuracy)
