Not really sure about that, unless the cover for Level 1 Zuikaku is this way just to avoid spoiling it's most tearjerking (and heartwarming) moments:

She's a lapsed Abyssal, as she hadn't been fully converted before being freed or rather, she was still fresh from the initial conversion, which is why she still had her Shoukaku memories.

i would be inclined to think she is a full abyssal but somehow with her memories. maybe due to the shock therapy from sinking zuizui herself. but as u said tho doesnt explain the cover.... haha

No, she was freshly converted per post #2001019 and still had her own mind to some extent per post #2001739.

Shoukaku herself says as much per post #2003667, as does Seaport in post #1995427.

And that brave, doomed bastard of an Admiral is why the war ended without even more casualties and why Shoukaku was able to return.

He was a true man's man, and the anti-shitty admiral we needed more of.

Also, unlike the abyssals, Shoukaku is using kanji and hiragana (while Hoppo uses Katakana only in the next page, which indicates the Abyssal's distorted, echo-y style of speech), which indicates she's fully shipgirl again.
