I've been wondering. Do people really keep their towels on when they take a dip in these hot springs? I mean, they'd get completely soaked and they'd have nothing to dry themselves off with after they're done, so why do they do it? Is it just for modesty's sake?

Usually, you'll get two towels when you visit a hot spring. The larger one is kept inside and is used to dry off afterwards. The smaller one is used in the actual baths. I'm not 100% sure what they're for, but I see most people use them as washcloths when you clean off before you go in.
