I like how "shriveled" Bono's tail is.

Wouldn't it be uncomfortable to sleep with the bell and flower still tied in your hair in Akebonos case since it looks like she did?

I don't think that's the case. Sazanami had her down when asleep, and even when she fixed it up into her usual twin-tails, it still look messy.

If Bono did sleep with the decor on, then I presume even the ornaments would be perceived as "messy" too.

That may be true. Since it looks like Sazanami styled her hair after arriving in the bathroom I thought Akebono would also do that, but then it looked like she arrived after them, that's why I wondered if she slept with it.

And the crab... is also subject to the "messiness"? Or am I looking too much into the illustrations?

I think this more about girls having bad hair days on days with alot of heavy rain. Something I think I remember seeing now and then in some past anime.
