Everyone mostly has good things to say about it(I saw it too). The only people bitching are the ones who were alerady bitching before because their head canon got destroyed. (such as make believe ship girls surfing on the water being "now canon") and such.

I never got that part where they hated about the girls gliding on water. I mean, all of the fanworks I see portray them doing just that. Were they expecting them to control their ship selves? What is this, Ars Nova?!

Well, there's a difference between seeing alot of fandom do it and actually seeing the official company do it. If you see someone make a doujin of your waifu paired up with another character you actually hate, you can just go "well at least it's not canon" where if all of a sudden, the official company does that exact same pairing, then you see all the ragers come out of hiding to express how they are "Destroying their own series" and such.
I know a few people miffed that they actually seem to be teasing alot Kitakami X Ooi in the official anime. Sure, it's a fandom meme that Ooi is one crazy lesbian, but to see Kadokawa actually ship the 2 is making people cry "sell outs!".
