I have been meaning to ask... Is it just me, or does the artist/author have something against sexual fanservice? I mean, he's been taking pains to avoid showing the shipgirls' damaged appearances with the invented plot device of giving them special coats whenever they're in such damaged states, and even has Kitakami hide her Kai Ni-exposed midriff with a haramaki.

I would assume because this comic is based on the story and not fanservice. Canonically it's because he gets cold looking at them.
