I don't think it was specified anywhere that this future Meguru is the current director. Director in her own timeline, maybe. She would still be familiar with Seren.

She's come to try to prevent "just a war" in the future, which will give the others the key information they need to know that Mars is actually savable, so as to push them towards an impossible save-the-world strategy.

Well one reason why Future Megeru would need to speak to the past versions might have to deal with Tamaryu's future or something that the 2 possibly could have a hand in affecting.

Speaking in literary trope terms, there's absolutely zero chance that time travel will occur in a plot without it being used as a Checkov's Gun or foreshadowing for something.

It's also possible that future Meguru isn't a willful time traveler. Maybe she got caught up in an anomaly or something and ended up in the current era, like what happened to Elza.
