People really need to stop taking everything in touhou at face value and thinking everything is "word-of-god".
Just because someone says something in the series doesn't make it factual. They can have subjective opinions about things and people that do not reflect how they actually are.
Explosion is (probably)correct, nothing in SoPM says that Kyouko specifically is bad at math. This is probably just Rapattu making a joke based on the line I posted above. Either that or it's his own headcanon. We all have our own understanding of Gensokyo, for example, I think Chiyuri has an obsession with wearing undersized clothes.

I'm more likley to accept somthing in a history book is true. Seeing as zun has written this as a non-fiction style book I'm going to accept it as canon. What you've basicly said is that nothing is canon.
