Does anyone know what those cords that japanese police seem have attaching their revolvers are called?

IIRC they are called lanyards.

I'm pretty sure that revolver is one of S&W's products...

Bit late here, but it's a lanyard to make sure you don't lose the weapon even if you drop it.
