With the sunset, that mountain of skulls and those soldiers with lifeless eyes setting the mood, the artist actually managed to make this Pol Pot as sinister as the real deal.

And I just realized why the apples. They are the symbol of knowledge. And that is one of the things that khmer rouges have sought to destroy by exterminating the intellectuals of their country.

The bad apples mentioned in his quote probably have something to do with it, too.

That quote seriously need a cross-check. Can’t find it in quote websites.

I fixed up the grammar of the note, but I'd appreciate it if someone could do a more accurate translation.

I never thought I would find a Krama(our scarf) in depiction. This made my day.

Pol Pot's regime said that “What is rotten must be removed”. Under his leadership, many Cambodians became subject to oppression and cleansing by being sent to an execution ground called “The Killing Fields”. It’s said that more than 1 million people were killed, but because the number is mixed with casualties of Cambodian civil war and the chaos caused by it, it has made it difficult to get census number since 1962, and so the real count is hard to know. Moreover, he built an army of children under age of 14. These children who had been denied education were easier to be brainwashed compared to adults. They were made into troops, security forces and medics. The juvenile troops were especially loyal cold-blooded in duty. However, they weren't so effective against the more experienced and better equipped Vietnamese forces.
