Votable Tag Pools

Posted under General

TL;DR: Danbooru has a long-term goal of dropping collection pools in favor of adding more functionality to series pools, as well as convert any collection pool that cannot be neatly shifted into a normal tag or nuked into a votable tag which works better for subjective concepts.

See this for more information on GitHub.

Alright, this is a bit different from my standard pool conversion fare, but this one is moreso to catalogue the collection pools that we already either agreed are going to become votable tags/concluded it was impossible to convert into a normal tag or be nuked, as well as pools I don't want to touch because they are the exact sort of subjective thing the admins are looking for.

This is done so anyone can chime in and make sure the pool actually can't be converted into a normal tag before we proceed, and having pools marked down already helps narrow down the sorting and BUR clean-up. I periodically update this post with pools people have collected, or been rejected from other forums topics.

Some pools include:

(I still don't see the difference between these two tbh, but if admins would rather keep them, I'm not going to fight on it.)

  • pool #903, "Disgustingly Adorable" - Failed in topic #8282 at least twice to be nuked, deemed too staple to just flatout nuke (though I do think clean-up is in order for this one, but I'm here to axe as many pools as possible, not clean up pools I have no stake in maintaining).
  • The various "God Damn It!" pools - forum #390975 failed miserably, deemed impossible to convert in topic #35562. When these get converted, I advise making sure they all become one umbrella tag for an easy two tag search.
  • pool #2138, "Almost Yuri" - Too many situations that add up to make it really hard to search for a "yuri fakeout" without it.
  • pool #6546, "Almost Yaoi" - Same deal as the yuri equivalent.
  • pool #2265, "Reaction Faces" - forum #417908 pointed out the broad implications. Most likely better off being retained for this massive changeover here.
  • pool #20151, "Female Gaze Hetero" - Been rejected from being nuked multiple times (forum #363638 being only the latest one), and also is too subjective to work as an objective tag. I actually really like this one, so it's not surprising to see it here.
  • pool #1823, "Wow, That Was Fast" - Time-based pool that is inherently a subjective reaction as opposed to an actual objective concept. A lot of the posts in here are like time capsules of a different internet era too. If getting rid of this pool means losing that sort of information, I don't wanna see it be gone then.
  • pool #4661, "About Time - Saw It Coming" - Another time-based pool but in the opposite direction. All of what I said about its sister pool applies to it too.
  • pool #5960, "Current Events" - This pool is another odd time capsule upon closer inspection, and it is also one of those pools that is inherently subjective in regards to what it considers "current". Just as likely to find eclipses and horseracing news as you are to find politics and actually disturbing shit. If this pool can be turned into a blacklistable tag, that'd be great, but I really do think it'd be best serving as a votable tag.
  • pool #660, "Nostalgia" - There is no one single tag that can accurately capture the vibe of this pool. So I'd rather see it become a votable tag over losing it entirely.

I'll add more when I have more energy, but feel free to chip in with more pools just so we have them marked down as safe for me and other pool cleaners to ignore.

Edit 06/27/2026: Added an opener and context for people unaware of what's going to happen to these pools, as well as added the fact this is going to be updated overtime.

Yeah, pool #20151 is definitely one I'm not touching. I've actually went up to bat for the pool before a couple times, and it's actually failed getting nuked multiple times. If that's not a good candidate for a votable tag, I don't know what would be.

The problems with pool #1823 and pool #4661 are that both are inherently time based, and their existence is moreso a timestamp of fandom trends and stuff as opposed to actually, you know, really objectively taggable. So I'd put them down here as ones on lock down.

Current Events is definitely subjective at least. Just as likely to find horseracing news (thanks Umamusume) as you are to find things like politics. I know I definitely brought it up at least once, but in hindsight I think it would be most at home as a votable tag.

I'd hate to see pool #660 (Nostalgia) go, but I can't see it getting converted to a standard tag given how inherently subjective it is. Votable seems like the only option.

(I actually love it primarily because it's fun to see what kinds of different things people think are nostalgic, so a votable tag would probably be way better for that.)

Yeah, Nostalgia was always at the bottom of the list for me, mainly because these posts have a very specific "vibe" I don't think any single objective tag could capture. Especially since, well...What is defined as nostalgia? What will be defined as nostalgia in the next twenty years, when we (hopefully) have another generation of people old enough to use Danbooru?

That's something I too find rather interesting to think about, so I'd love to preserve that too if possible. A votable tag for that would be the most ideal experience indeed.

I'll probably turn my opener into a sort of "masterlist" post for easy reference, just to make life easy on mainly admins so people don't need to scroll through what can easy become dozens of pages of discussion lol.

Honestly, I should probably add that to the aforementioned opener just so people not in the Discord (*cough* me *cough*) don't do double takes every so often at the title...
